an End to an Era...An ode to the Cricketing Legends of My time/Generation...
Cricket in India is a massive yet squeaky- clean affair.
It’s not just a game but a leitmotif for its fans across the globe. It is a religion,
a culture, a ritual which stands same for all irrespective of caste,
creed, region even in a so diversified country like India. Cricket
binds whole India with its charm and fancy. Cricketing legends are here revered
as god, the entity which stands above all. For generations to come the game,
its rules, its statistics may remain same but the mania, the exuberance will
not be same , It will be more hysteric,
more nerve-racking and more wayward celebrations.
What we witnessed for nearly one month prior to the test
match against West Indies and post , was a salute/tribute to the man who gave India
or the pan-India an international recognition, albeit through a game which was
innate to British kingdom. The whole world wholeheartedly wished this little
master a fairy adios on and off the field. It was for a man who rose/passed
through a bottleneck crossroad of many hurdles/criticisms to the magnanimity by
his sheer determination, hard-work, heavenly dedication towards his only
stomping ground(Cricket). The never-say-never attitude made the little master a
never dampening Spirit. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar or for most
of us only epithet Tendulkar was enough to make us sit quietly and composedly
glued to TV in worst of the worst situations in India’s cricket
history.Tendulkar was symbolic to our vision, perseverance and patience. This
little genius galvanized a rippling effect through our blood, mind and
conscience whenever we needed him. He gave us hope.
For my generation, mostly who were born after 1985 have been
elated for long years in behest of Tendulkar’s glorifying career .I remember
after each and every match our talking point was always inclined towards master
blaster, be it his square drive or cover drive or sweep shots even at our
callow days.
Cricket aficionados will surely miss this tiny man who would
always raise his bat up in favor of his late father and the almighty whenever
he scored a Century and would kiss his helmet donning Indian tricolor..so do
the delirious crowd thanking the Invisible for giving them a gem called
‘Tendulkar..Sachin Tendulkar’.
We will miss you Sachin for years to come. You are and wiil
be that one of a kind who is always looked upon with respect, love, and always
remain an inspiration for generations to come.
Thank You Sachin.You are a
true Bharat Ratna as conferred with nation’s highest honor /award.
Yesterday I read at one of my friend’s wall in Facebook that
‘Our childhood is over’. And it stated the retirement of four torch bearers of India’s legacy in its long cricketing career who have proven their mettle from time to time.
The names stated were Sachin,Sourav,VVS and Dravid. Yes Indeed. We have
witnessed these greats’ greatness, their contribution, their ups and downs and
then we have seen them rising like a phoenix from the ashes to romp india to
victory.
I am not sure if I will be again in head-over-heels love
with Cricket and So as my generations because the stars whom we saw dazzling at
far distance on the field will be no more there to blink at you and wave hands
at you.
Thank You Fantastic Four for giving us a reason to smile, to
cheer about , even at our utmost destitute.
